Free Food & Clothing Assistance: Monday through Saturday we provide clients with food and clothing through our front door. Depending on the client’s situation they can receive services between three and six times within the period of one year. Please note that this is a December holiday food box that is delivered by a volunteer to the recipient’s home on Saturday, December 21st between 9am and noon.
Our Food ’Shopping’ Model
As of June, 2011, our clients are able to ‘shop’ for food at our onsite food store, selecting items that fit their needs. Each client is given a food allowance card (which varies depending on the size of the household) and a shopping cart. Once the client has selected their food (approximately a week’s worth of food), the food is weighed, bagged and the client is on their way.

THREADZ Clothing Store Our onsite clothing store “THREADZ” carries new and gently used clothing items. Each client is allowed to browse the store and take home a grocery sized paper bag full of clothes, a coat and a pair of shoes for each member of their household.

Officer & Agency Referral Cards With an Officer or Agency Referral Card, a person or family can come to Sunshine Division and receive services NO QUESTIONS ASKED. The individual or family will receive a shopping visit to fill a grocery cart from our food store. In addition, clients can select from our clothing room. Clients that are referred to Sunshine Division to receive services through the referral cards must bring the card with them to receive food and clothing.

Izzy’s Kids | Brand New School Clothes for Kids
For more than 30 years the Sunshine Division has funded and worked with Portland Police officials to identify school-age children living within the city of Portland whose families cannot afford to outfit them with new school clothes. Through our Izzy’s Kids fund, the Sunshine Division pairs an officer with a child in need. The result is a unique shopping experience at a local Fred Meyer store between a child and Portland Police officer. The Izzy’s Kids fund allows kids to feel good showing up to school in new clothes and they gain a positive experience and interaction with a police officer in the process! If you have a school-age child or know of one that would benefit from this program, please contact your school’s Portland Police Resource Officer or the Sunshine Division.
We provide each of the five Portland police precinct stations with food boxes for distribution by police officials. By having food boxes at the precincts, police officers have access to emergency food boxes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to give to those in need.

Holiday Food Boxes During the 2013 holidays Sunshine Division volunteers will deliver 3,500 boxes to Portlanders in need. The boxes contain everything needed to make a holiday meal.
Local Hunger Relief Agency Food Donations The Sunshine Division distributes more than three million pounds of food to a network of more than a dozen local hunger relief organizations annually. If your nonprofit agency would like to be in our agency network, please contact 503-823-2102.
