Creating awareness of the Sunshine Division’s services and how we’re addressing the hunger issue as it relates to the children of our community is very important. Thanks to our partners, BedMart, New Seasons Markets, and Les Schwab Tire Centers, this summer the community will be reminded that “Hunger Doesn’t Vacation.”
The goal of this campaign is to highlight the needs of thousands of local kids, who receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch at their schools during the school year but when summer hits are without two of their three meals a day.
BedMart, New Seasons Markets, and Les Schwab will raise awareness and funds their local stores May 27th through June 22nd.
As part of the campaign for the first time we will be delivering 1000 summer food boxes to homes on Saturday, June 22nd at 9 a.m. to Portland area families with school age
children in their homes. We are looking for volunteers who want to help with the loading of boxes at the Sunshine Division Warehouse and North Precinct from roughly 8:30am-11am or volunteers to personally deliver the boxes to homes as “drivers” on that morning beginning at 9am that morning from both locations. Drivers can take as little or as many boxes as they want. Those interested in helping at North precinct should email Barbara Barbara.Erspamer@portlandoregon.gov directly and those interested in helping at the Sunshine warehouse should email Kris Padden email@example.com.

The campaign raised a tremendous amount of awareness through local media partners last summer. Did you see Officer Kent on TV last summer??? If so it was due to BedMart’s support! Here is the PSA they generously produced in 2012:
